navigate. After Hurricane Helene ravaged our rivers, the work of Mountain True/RiverKeepers has become more important than ever. MountainTrue is home to four Riverkeepers, including the Watauga located in Boone. Our Riverkeepers are the primary guardians of our river basins, and maintain the health of our waterways by monitoring pollution and cleaning our rivers and streams. MountainTrue works to restore and preserve our waterways as healthy ecosystems that are great places to swim, paddle and fish. MountainTrue supports the development and enforcement of standards and regulations to protect surface and groundwater, and to preserve and restore waterways as healthy ecosystems as well as recreational and aesthetic resources.
